I'm not sure yet where my program went wrong, but the multiplication routine (which I wrote quite a while ago), if I recall correctly, needed some debugging when several zeros in a row came up, and I see the break in Charlie's correction of my numbers came between a double zero; so I'll check that out.
It just occurred to me that I could check by converting base 10 to 12, then use the same method to convert back: see if it changes. No guarantee that would pick up the mistake, but it might.
