Three reporters were discussing the hockey results. The TV reporter said "Either Brazil won gold, or Chile won silver, but not both." The radio reporter similarly started to say "Either Argentine won silver, or Chile won …", but a sudden noise cut him off.
The press reporter, who was lucky enough to hear the complete sentence, could reason out the final order of the three countries. What was it?

Well, the question does state that the reporter IS able to deduce the order. The only assumption that I make about that is to assume that he did actually deduce it correctly (even if he had to make assumptions like the one you are mentioning).
This is why, in my opinion, restricting it to those three countries is not necessarily an assumption. The question should maybe state whether the reporter got it right or not...
