On Valentine's Day in 1996, there was a snail (his name is Herb) at the bottom of an empty well that is 30 feet tall. The well had run dry, but it had slippery, moss covered walls. So, during the day (he woke up at 6am), Herb was able to climb 3 feet up, but while he slept at night (he went to sleep at 10pm), he slipped back down 2 feet.

The Valentine's Day occurred on 14th February in the year 1996.
Now, the snail climbs up 3 feet in the daytime but slips back 2 feet during the nighttime, and so, it would take the snail precisely 27 days to climb up 27 feet.
Accordingly, on the morning of (14+27-29) = 12 March when it woke up, the snail was at a distance of 30-27 = 3 feet from the top of the well. During the course of the daytime in 12 March, it would cover the remaining distance(3 feet) enabling the snail to climb up.
Consequenly, the precise date that Herb will be able to climb up the well is 12 March.
