Given a square piece of paper, show how by creasing and folding only, a square of half the area of the original can be obtained.

Crease the line between the midpoints of the top and bottom and same for line between the midpoints of the left and right sides. Then fold down the corners. Actually, only the first crease is really needed, but it may be easier to do the folding when both creases are there.
