A prominent politician recently proposed, as part of our SDI, to place a defensive satellite in geosynchronous orbit directly above Washington, D.C.

What if anything is wrong with his suggestion?

A geosynchrous orbit is when an object (normally a satellite) is positioned above the Earth in a position that it orbits the Earth every 24 hours, so satellite dishes don't have to rotate. However, geosync orbit only occurs over the equator, and since none DC is not over the equator, there cannot be a satellite above it in geosync orbit which will stay permanently fixed on one place not on the equator.

I haven't looked at other solutions, but I'd bet money Charlie's has some huge number sequence in it...
