Each number in the sequence is one bit longer than the previous one (leading 0's included).  All the numbers are left justified, rather than right justified.  The first column of bits alternates 101010..., the second column of bits (which starts on row 2) alternates 11001100..., the third columns of bits (which starts on row 3) alternates 111000111000...
