Measure out exactly 4 gallons of water (Assume you have a river handy, or some other limitless water supply).

Pour 5>3 [5=2,3=3]
Empty 3 [5=2,3=0]
Pour 5>3 [5=0,3=2]
Fill 5 [5=5,3=2]
Pour 5>3 - stop when 3 full[5=4,3=3]
