It is a riddle (Posted on 2005-04-13) Difficulty: 1 of 5
It is a riddle.
It is the strongest force,
to resist your force,
and yet it is not a force.
It never accelerates,
but it is always moving.
It never rests, and
it never gets tired.
It has been defined many ways,
but no one can quite capture it.
What is it?

(In reply to Challenge everybody back for discussion by Jonathan Chang)

hey JC,
read ALL of your comments and rebuttles..i have to say, it sounds great and all..and to answer a few questions and stuff and stuff =0)

a) umm..forgot who said it in this discussion board/riddle thing..but they are correct in saying that the earth IS accelerating..and their definition is correct..scientifically..speed is a scalar number, whereas velocity is vector (as is acceleration)..

b) 5 creatures 5 fingers? i'm new..cut me some slack..can't read the site in a day... =0) but it IS suprisingly slow for me..is it b/c there's so many people on? or that perplexus is in dire need of a new server? just asking...

c) since we're going so deeply into the whole acceleration and science thing...i would like to pose a question...IF technology enabled us to TRAVEL at the speed of light...time would slow down correct? if so...we can MAKE time decelerate..a form of acceleration...so does that mean that Time itself has decelerated and SLOWED DOWN? obviously not...the answer? Frames Of Reference...Inertial and non-inertial frames of reference... if you are outside the world and OBSERVE any object you usually see on earth (assuming you have amazing eyesight)...it would be accelerating...you do not see it when you are on earth, because you are in an inertial frame of reference, as is the object...

finally..
d) were Michael posted the solution, it clearly says "Time is a Force to be recon-ed with"...that's a quote from somewhere...a saying..a metaphor...so i guess there IS some sort of imagination with reasoning...so i guess i was hastey in posting that first comment of mine..my apologies...

as to the different names...
1) Father Time
2) .....

and i just ran into a Brain Fart people...help me out...haha =)
