If a stone is dropped from a balloon on a still day, does the stone fall directly below the balloon, or to the west or east of it?

Just a question???? for clarification | Comment 32 of 36 |
Where is the balloon located.....if positioned over the North or South pole it would be impossible for the stone to fall to the east or west so by process of elimination of the choices given you are left with directly below it.  Also does the height of the balloon matter...... if the distance the stone "falls" is incredibly small the the rotation of the earth would have no effect....or am i thinking too much
