Too Old For Grandma (Posted on 2003-02-28) Difficulty: 2 of 5
"I've always been 45 years older than your Dad", said Grandma to young grandson.

"But now the two digits in my age, both prime, are the reverse of the two in your Dad's age".

Solution: (Hide)
Grandma was 72 years old.
Let the two digits be A and B.
Then (10A+B)-(10B+A) = 45
or, 9(A-B)= 45.
This gives A-B = 5.
7 and 2 are the only two prime numbers that satisfy the given conditions.
Therefore, Grandma's age is 72 years.
