Cross cut (Posted on 2006-03-06) Difficulty: 4 of 5
I have a cross in the form of one square with four identical squares surrounding it

 _|_|_
|_|_|_|
  |_|
Cut it into the fewest number of pieces possible such that, when rearranged the pieces form two smaller crosses of identical size.

Well.. whatever the difficulty rating...  

Cuts don't matter.. number of pieces do...Until someone comes up with a better answer that is less than 4 pieces.. then we have two workable solutions.
