In general, when a pure substance or mixture goes from liquid to solid, the molecules in it get closer resulting in a higher density.

If this is so why does ice float in water?

Ok, well i dont feel like typing a bunch o crap out, but seriously, what happened to the good ol' riddles? Ok Why is the sky blue? If energy cannot be created where did it come from? Just go back to stuff like 52 bicycles and one dead man.
