What is the smallest number that can be written as the difference of 2 squares in 4 ways?

If the difference is positive, then 96 can be shown to be the smallest answer.

If negative differences are allowed, there is no smallest answer.

If 'in 4 ways' is taken to mean 'in at least 4 ways', then 0 is an answer, since a^2-a^2 = 0.
