An interior designer has a dilemma. She has to move an amazingly heavy armchair which is up against a wall. The chair needs to be sitting so it is exactly beside its starting position and facing the same way.
If the only possible movement is to rotate the chair on any of its corners, how can the chair be moved to its new position?
Follow the steps to give you the correct answer.
1. Draw an imaginary line through the centre of the chair along the floor.
2. Keep one of the front legs (A) on the floor and rotate the chair until the other front leg (B) is on the line.
3. Rotate the chair about this point(B) until it is parallel to the wall behind the chair
4. Draw a second imaginary line through the centre of the chair along the floor.
5. rotate the chair backwards so that it's front leg (B) is now on the imaginary line, leg (A) stays in same place.
6. Rotate the chair about leg (B) until it parallel to the wall.
the chair is now in the position beside it's original place, in the same orientation
