It makes sense, since we are using mod 26, so there are only 26 characters, one of which is used to represent the space between words.  A minimal change to my spreadsheet would no doubt make "Z" the word separator instead of "@".   One could have full use of all 26 letters if the cryptkeeper had elected to either blur all the words together, or insert a 27th character as a delimiter.  If there was a delimiter, of course, then we'd have to ignore it when calculating the differences.

I'm still trying to figure out what this has to do with Pascal's Theory.  Pascal had a bet or wager, if I recall:  had to do with religion.  He was betting that god exists reasoning that if you bet he/she does not exist, and then it turns out you're wrong... ooops.  But if you bet he/she exists, and you turn out to be wrong... no problem.

Or is it like Pascal's Triangle where one row represents the differences of the next row.

I'm not sure if it's one of these or some completely different theory.... anyone want to bet?
