Octagon in a Circle (Posted on 2004-10-25) Difficulty: 3 of 5
The octagon ABCDEFGH is inscribed in a circle, with the vertices around the circumference in the given order. Given that the polygon ACEG is a square of area 5 and the polygon BDFH is a rectangle of area 4, find the maximum possible area of the octagon.

Hey Charlie,

The answer I got was what showed up on your line for angle 26.565...

I think you are saying that you can't include that one because then the ABCDEFGH ordering would be all messed up.  But I don't think I agree.  The 6.7082 are is what I got, and I kept the vertices of the octagon right, so I don't think I messed that up.

Could you explain what I am missing?  Thanks!
