Blockout (Posted on 2004-11-22) Difficulty: 3 of 5
In each of the following equations, remove two characters (digits or symbols) to make the equation correct.

  1. 12+8/2/2/2=1*2+4

  2. (2+7)*5=6*4+18-5

  3. 1+2+3+4=236-20+8

Example:
38/2-14+3=11-3*2
38/2-14+3=11-3*2
38/2-14+3=11-3

1. remove the + from the left and the * from the right hand side

2. remove the parentheses from the LHS

3. remove the + between the 2 and 3 on the LHS and the + between the 20 and 8 RHS

This took me about two minutes to do whilst I while away the time between finishing work and going to football (soccer).  Good fun anyway - interestingly I solved them in apparently the same order as Larry, 1, 3, 2
