True Or False - Part 2 (Posted on 2003-05-07) Difficulty: 2 of 5
Obviously the following statement is 'False':
"This sentence contains Seven words".

So we correct the sentence by changing it to:
This sentence does not contain Seven words".

We know that the First statement is False and so now can we conclude that the Second statement is True ?

Some Thoughts Thoughts | Comment 33 of 45 |

In the first sentence, the words "this sentence" are refering to sentence number one.

In the second sentence, the words "this sentence" should therefore be the same subject as the same words in the first sentence, and would therefore be refering to the first sentence also.

Because of this, in saying "this sentence does not contain seven words," would be meaning "this sentence" as refering to the first sentence and so the second sentence would be therefore still true.
