What about in reverse?

Try to maximise the number of letters while minimizing the word length

7 letter word "Abcoude" (the name of a town in the Netherlands) and 9 letter words absconder, absconded and ambuscade have "abcde"

9 letter words poundmeal  and typonymal, and 10 letter word polynomial,  have "ponml" (descending)
