One Word, Seven Times (Posted on 2005-01-27) Difficulty: 5 of 5
"Dog dog dog dog dog dog dog."

While dog-lovers rejoice at the above statement, grammarians hang their heads in shame, as the statement is not a grammatically correct sentence.

Replace "dog" with a word that will satisfy the grammarians. You may not add any additional words or punctuation.

Solution Bamboozled? (Spoiler) | Comment 6 of 14 |
Start with a verb:
To Buffalo: To bamboozle

Add a noun:
Buffalo buffalo: Bison sometimes bamboozle

Add another noun:
Buffalo buffalo buffalo: What bison really enjoy doing is bamboozling other buffalo

Throw in another verb:
Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo: The bison that other bisons bamboozle often bamboozle. (Make no sense? Think Noun, noun, verb, verb)

And another noun (just for fun):
Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo: Those bisons mentioned above take it out on other buffalo

Want another noun?
Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo: And what do those bison mentioned above do? You got it! (Confused? Bison that have been bamboozled by bison who have themselves been bamboozled by bison engage in bamboozlement. Still confused? Try putting a subject at the begining of the 4xBuffalo above and a verb at the end).

... I could carry that on to make it more than six, but instead I'll leave that as an exercise for the interested reader.

Indeed, were we allowed proper nouns I could start mentioning those bison who happen come from that area of New York, Buffalo... but that's far too easy.
