Going up (Posted on 2003-06-01) Difficulty: 3 of 5
A man walks up an escalator, taking one step per second. After taking thirty steps, he is at the top.

Next day, he goes up at two steps per second, reaching the top in 36 steps.

The third day, he has had a long afternoon and merely sits on the escalator, waiting for it to reach the top.

How long does it take him?

I am not sure | Comment 9 of 10 |
if you take into fact that the steps are moving all three times, then you must go at this in a different way, i think that you must come up with the ratio of the first two days. (30steps=30sec=top=?sec)(36steps=/2sec=top=13sec) both days the steps are moving so you do not know the speed that means that all you have to work with is time i think that the ratio is 2.23RND now apply that to the first day and the second day i think that on the last day it only took 69.13sec. i would like some one to show me if i am wrong. thank you.
