There's this town with two blacksmiths - one, a swordsmaker and the other, a shield maker. The swordsmaker's swords can slice through anything as a rule and the other guy's shields cannot be destroyed. Now they get cut up with each other for some reason and pit their wares against each other. What do you expect happens?

Oh My gaaash man! Relax. Both devices are made of
good ol' ordinary matter. No opposites here. If you'd spent
a lil more thought on this you'd agree with me that 'slicing' isn't the
opposite of 'blocking'. A more general verity would be that
resistance to a force is the exact opposite of the application of
it.
But none of that matters here 'coz the problem is simply one of
semantics as someone mentioned earlier on. The two statements
cannot exist in the same universe. For instance, you can't BE and
NOT at the same time (whatever time is!). I'm sure whatever laws
of the universe conspire to cause the sword to be an ideal one won't
favor the shield, as a function of time or space or whatever.
Goodnight.
