There are N players in a tennis tournament. Assuming the initial pairings are done randomly, what are the odds that a certain pair will play each other?

Two problems: the odds of a person playing another in the first round are 1/(N-1) -- he will play someone, and there are N-1 other players -- so your answer isn't right.

And, I didn't say "the first round" but "in a tennis tournament"... so you should take into account the next rounds too!
