Six Similar Words (Posted on 2005-10-03) Difficulty: 2 of 5
There are six words that satisfy the following six definitions (one word for each definition) and these words share an unusual property. What are the six words and what is the unusual property?

  • Removed the withered heads of flowers
  • One who can recall an event
  • Emphasizes again
  • Calmness
  • Bare-armed
  • Whispers

    The property is that the words can be typed with the left hand on a normal QWERTY keyboard, except for only one additional key from the right side.  The words are

    deadheaded (h)

    rememberer (mm)

    reaccents (n)

    sereneness (nn)

    sleeveless (ll)

    susurrates (uu)

    I thought that it would be cleaner if two keystrokes from the right side would be required for each word, but I couldn't make that work.  Also, I like serenity better (as a word) than sereneness, but it requires two additional keys (iy).
