The following question was asked on a math test:
If 6 cats kill 6 rats in 6 minutes, how many will be needed to kill 100 rats in 50 minutes?
Ryan answered 12, Stefanie said 13, and Tom put down 14 for his answer. After looking at their work, the teacher decided to give all three students credit.
What were the arguments that each student made?
We are assuming that the strength of cats to kill is just enough. It could be little less than enough which has been rounded to nearest integer. In that case when we multiply the same for higher quantity of of rats the cats required will go up by one. Similarly is the rats also are non uniform and a similar correction were to be given for rats also then the number will prbably go up by one more number.
Other wise the linear way the answer is 12.
