Two things:
1. First is a minor ask to edit the diagram, seems to be a few unwarranted br or p tags.
2. After seeing the solution links for the 2 peg problem, I envisaged that this was like the classic "Cut your button-hole" or "guillotine yourself" with a loop of string.
And I can see your extended idea of 'n' pegs. At this stage I haven't figured out whether a 4th peg would have 6 or 8 threads over it, I'm thinking 8.
