Each word, when reversed except for the initial letter, will spell the same word.  The same is true with the following words that start with 'V':

vara - a unit of length in Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries, varying in length from 32 to 48 inches
vasa - vessels or ducts (plural of vas) [Biology]
vee - shaped like the letter V
venine - a poisonous substance in snake venom (variant spelling of venin) [Biochemistry]
villi - long, soft, straight hairs covering parts of certain plants (plural of villus) [Botony]; minute vascular processes on certain membranes (plural of villus) [Anatomy]
voodoo - black magic
