The twelve signs of the horoscope (AQUARIUS, ARIES, and so on) run a race along the Zodiac. In how many different ways can the race end, if ties are possible?

This is essentially the same formula as I gave.  The nice thing is that the formula has a very nice meaning (as I described) which was how I came up with it.  The 1 in your version is everyone tied or first and the sum over how many many did not tie for first (total choose losers)*a(losers)
