An intelligent friend of mine told me the other day that half of twelve was seven. I told him it was six, and tapped it in on my calculator to prove it was, in fact, 6. He then wrote down on a piece of paper how he was right.

What did he write?

12 is written as XII in the Roman Numerals.
Drawing a line through the middle of XII, the upper half is VII, which is the Roman Numeral for 7.

Thus, half of 12 is 7.
