Removal of a letter from each would trasform these into numbers.
ONCE -> ONCE - O -> ONE -> 1
FLOUR -> FLOUR - L -> FOUR -> 4
TERN -> TERN - R -> TEN -> 10
THIRSTY -> THIRSTY - S -> THIRTY -> 30
