A man was so bothered by his wife's mother and brother that he opted for divorce. He remarries another woman, only to discover that his mother-in-law and brother-in-law remain the same. Seeking relief, he divorces once again, this time resolving to stay single. Nonetheless, he has the same brother-in-law.
How is this possible?

I will admit I missed the need to explain why the mother-in-law remained the same, that the two ex-wives were siblings. But for the brother-in-law to have remained a brother-in-law would have to have been the brother of the two siblings and married to the man's own sibling, not to the second wife.
(I've decided to use the word "sibling" as, in some places in the world, same-sex marriages have been determined to be legal, and the term "wife" in those situations, though may seem to defy gender, is sometimes used.)
