13 Down? 36 Across? (Posted on 2008-12-25) Difficulty: 2 of 5
I was doing a crossword puzzle the other day when I noticed that each word in the following (two-word) clues all share one unique common characteristic. What is it?

Acid rain
Bath mat
Get Smart
Halloween pumpkin
Harvest moon
Heart patient
High elevation
Monkeyed around
Pigged out
Planet Earth
Skin lotion
Suspected felon
Western Utah
Zen Buddhist

re: Poor beggar? | Comment 4 of 5 |

Brian... 'Poor beggar' wouldn't make the list of crossword clues, but 'downright beggared' would!  The first word could be substituted with others, but given this particular theme, 'beggared' stands alone as the only form of the word that works.  Hope this helps!
