Richard Of York Gave Battle in Vain.  Even so, it is very likely that the third Duke of York had seen the coat of many colors....the rainbow.

Woven in prismatic threads of the visible light spectrum, the rainbow is made up of the colors mnemonically known by ROY G. BIV (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet). Thus, vicar, the word that begins with the final letter of the memory device, is most appropriate in completing the sequence.
