Something has broken into the garden, and has eaten what I planted there. Whatever it is, it started at each one of 11 different locations (in darker green below) and each time dispersed pieces of the scrambled plant, fruit or vegetable along its path (one letter per square) until it had finished with all its parts. The first letter in each case is at the starting location.
Try to figure out what the eleven plants, fruits, or vegetables I planted, and each time take the last letter from the path (reading from left to right and top to bottom) to figure out what broke into the garden. (For example, the creature started at the top left T and ended three spaces over, dispersing pieces of TOMATO along the way.)

re: the last letters? by Jyqm)
Whilst assisting with the construction of the graphic and reading Gamer's proposed solution I could not get the path. I remember a slightly different wording to: (one letter per square).
Thank you Jyqm, I could not reconcile how the invader could consistently arrive at a letter in Gamer's solution, like, jumping around to build T-O-M-A-T-O leaves you with an "A" being adjacent to either of the "O" in the word. Of course, I was working from perceptions gained from an earlier wording, I doubt that even the published would have helped. So, attempt to recognise a word, build an orthogonal chain, and use the last letter! Ok, clear now.
