This is probably my best offer of a multi-disciplinary riddle, not very difficult:
Decode the title of this post, given:
a. w1*w2=w6
b. w3, w4, w5 are partial products in said order.
c. w1 is a large gregarious deer.
d. w2 is a crib.
e. w3 is a pass between two mountains (pl).
f. w4 - a family name of two German brothers: Heinrich (zoologist) and Friedrich (scientist).
g. w5 Cosby's and Clinton's 1st name.
h. To w6 (verb) means to haunt or excessively preoccupy the mind – I am w6-ed with creating math. puzzles.
i. "X", "*", and "#" denote three distinct letters not used in the multiplication text.
j. All partial products are 4-digit numbers.
Well, w6 = OBSESS
w5 = BILL
w4 (with the help of GOOGLE) is BOIE
This is enough to indicate to me that I = 9,
and this (along with the clever puzzle clue)
is enough for me to work out the title:
5*90 90 5*6 1605 2##6X
THIS IS THE BEST OFFER
Therefore, w6 = OBSESS = 210600
w4 = BOIE = 1296
w5 = BILL = 19LL
1296 = 2 * 648 = 3 * 432 = 4 * 324 = 6 * 216 = 8*162
Which of [648, 432, 324, 216, 162} are factors of 210600?
Four of them, as it turns out.
210600 = 648 * 325 = 324 * 650 = 216 * 975 = 162 * 1300
= E48 * 3OT = 3O4 * ETS = OBE * I7T = BEO * B3SS
I am thinking 3 = C, 325 = COT, and that the first set is the right one.
648 ELK
*325 *COT
---- ----
3240 COLS
1296 BOIE
1944 BILL
------ ------
210600 OBSESS
Great puzzle, Ady!
This is indeed your best effort!
