Too Old For Young (Posted on 2003-05-24) Difficulty: 3 of 5
The ages of Old and Young total 48. Old is twice as old as Young was when Old was half as old as Young will be when Young is three times as old as Old was when Old was three times as old as Young.

How old is Old ?

Sorry, I didn't make my notation really clear. I meant for Ax to be a single subscripted variable meaning the value of A at time x. So, to answer your question, I'm not multiplying by x (or y or z), those are just to make the distinction between the ages at different points in time.
