Ady, while your explanation makes sense if we forget the partial products, I think Jer's point is that the partial products are part of the problem, and given the partial products there is only one valid solution.  The fact that one of the digits was invariant in the coded version is thus superfluous, that info is not required to solve the puzzle. 

Not a big deal though, it was a good puzzle.
