Given a convex quadrilateral. Construct, with straight-edge and
compass, a line parallel to one of the sides of the quadrilateral
that divides the area of the quadrilateral in half.

I liked your proof that at least one of the constructions will work.


Now what if four lines are to be constructed that divide the area in half where each is parallel to one of the four sides of the quadrilateral?

This might require that the endpoints of the line segments lie on adjacent and opposite sides of the quadrilateral.
