re(2): computer aided solution.... to be expanded by tomarken)
I am far away from home and not sure whether there are more solutions that make the three digits (7,8,4) into letters strictly from set (irk tlm ue) .
At least TUMMY, TELLS & TELLY (not mentioned by you) qualify.
Telly(noun) - an electronic device that receives television signals and displays them on a screen; "the British call a tv set a tel.
But nothing in the d4 puzzle precludes words like TWEED, *ORRY (*=W or S), provided no more than 3 new letters are added (8 digits in the alphametic and "$" in the coded word leave you only 3 "free" choices).
2. tweed(noun )- : a rough, woolen cloth that is woven with different colored threads.
I think that very slight modification of your program (like possible choices of the double letter or the positions of vowels) will allow you to fully solve the puzzle.
