What immediately struck me was Ethiopia as the only landlocked country, as it has been landlocked since Eritrea was formed along the coast.
Too bad there's not a southern hemisphere country, or I'd have found another valid solution, and there are more than 1 western hemisphere countries, so another avenue of uniqueness is closed.
One could say that North Korea is the only communist country, but then Cuba is also on the list, and I don't know what other, more esoteric, at least to me, criteria might exist.
