Johny, trying to reduce, followed a certain diet
during the month of April.
He recorded his weight daily at 8:00, naked, using the same balance.
Some of his entries are given below:

Apr 3...........102.6 kg
Apr 8...........101.1 kg
Apr 14.........99.4 kg
Apr 18.........98.7 kg
Apr 22.........98.0 kg
Apr 28..........97.6 kg

Please provide your estimate of his average April weight.

re: Using calculator app and Excel Comment 10 of 10 |
(In reply to Using calculator app and Excel by Charlie)

Adi, based on the various methods and differing answers so far, this has turned out to be an interesting real-life problem. Kol hakavod!

Just one (picky, picky) comment on some of the solutions: the problem gives the weights to one decimal place. Therefore, despite the myriad virtues of Excel and calculators, one can't state the answer to 2 (or more) decimal places.

As my physics prof used to say, with a twinkle, "Claiming accuracy not supported by the data is a mortal sin. It's like measuring the width of a room with a meter stick and then stating the answer to the nearest millimeter."     :-)
