Six countries have names that begin with the letter <CONSONANT>, and each has a different vowel as the second letter.

Name the countries and their capitals.

Hint: the letter y is considered a vowel.

Korea can be considered a synonym for South Korea, a country recognized as an independent, sovereign country by the United States. Kosovo is also recognized by the United States to be an independent, sovereign country.

Given these facts, if there is an assumption that multiple solutions for the possible set of countries beginning with the letter S would discount S as an alternate solution to this problem, then so would the letter K be discounted.

Discounting Korea as it can be less ambiguous to call it South Korea is not really a valid argument. If synonyms are discounted, then only the official name should be recognized, with further stipulation as to what language and which governing body would be the designator as to the official name.

There are more alternate solutions possible, as some ancient countries can still be considered to have names beginning with a given letter and followed by a vowel permitting the given letter to possible have all six vowel letters represented. Yet, there is an implication that the puzzle is meant for those contemporary recognized nations. Thus, IMO, both S and K are the answers.
