Brian, a correction:

24^5 + 28^5 + 67^5 = 3^5 +54^5 + 62^5, which has a sum of the bases for each side of the equation equal to 119, for a total sum of 238.

The equation with the next smaller sum of the bases,
18^5 + 44^5 + 66^5 = 13^5 + 51^5 + 64^5
having the sum of the bases for each side of its equation equal to 128, for a total sum of 256 is correct.
