TO and FRO (Posted on 2016-04-25) Difficulty: 1 of 5
A and B drive from X to Y. A drives the first 40 miles, and B drives the rest of the way.
That afternoon they return by the same route, with A driving the first leg and B driving the last 50 miles.
Who drives the farthest, and by what distance?

Solution Easy solution | Comment 3 of 4 |
Suppose the distance from X to Y is n miles. Then, A drives 40+(x-50)=x-10 miles. B drives (x-40)+50=x+10 miles. Therefore, B drives 20 miles more than A.
