A spiral word (Posted on 2016-08-04) Difficulty: 4 of 5
Coil the word REMEDIABLENESSES as a spiral into a 4x4 grid (see below) and surprisingly you get a crossword square with 8 valid words: 4 across and 4 down (+ARMS & BEE read diagonally).

ABLE
IREN
DEME
SESS

Try to find another example(s), forget the diagonals.

Hints/Tips re(3): Questionable words: -validity | Comment 4 of 7 |
(In reply to re(2): Questionable words by Dej Mar)

Valid - adjective

  1. soundgoodreasonablejusttellingpowerfulconvincingsubstantial,

    acceptable,sensiblerationallogicalviablecrediblesustainableplausible
conclusive weighty,    cogent  legalofficiallegitimatecorrectgenuineproperin effectauthenticin forcelawfulbona fidelegally bindingetc <br>

The above is a partial   list of synonyms of the word "valid". It is easy to see that all the adjectives in the list lack objectivity and allow very broad interpretation.

The source of the word is the Latin "Valeo" , meaning "I am strong, I am healthy,
I am OK ! ", forcing a reply:  …"   Hey, watch out ,  we have only your word for it!"

"..One man's food is another man's poison.! So whenever you use  the word "valid" you should either  prefix it or upend it by "IMHO", "AFAIK", "To the best of my knowledge" etc. or make sure that you and  your listener/reader share the same interpretation of the word.

Now, retournons  a nos moutons, - your "valid " has nothing to do  with the text's  "valid":

  1. "English" is not mentioned as the  mandatory language ;

  2. Nothing was said about proper names being excluded.

  3. Inclusion or exclusion of acronyms was not addressed.

  4. Nothing was said about what data base or what dictionaries are "valid ' reference.

If   I were facing a similar  question I would either  assume: "Everything goes!" or define my own constraints like "the name should appear as a legitimate word in at least one of the predefined dictionaries",  "proper names ate allowed even if derived from non-English source, like Ivan, Jose or Nahman", "Acronyms are out, unless accepted in daily use e.g. NIMBI, RADAR, NASA etc  or " only nouns, no plurals, no proper names  ".

Then, after defining the missing parameters , I would begin the solving process.

Your remarks, IMHO, assuming that their objective was improving the accuracy of the post for the benefit of other solvers, should be provided while the puzzle was on the reviewing post, not after publication.

Now – few words about the puzzle. I've found on the web a note regarding the spiraling " REMEDIABLENESSES "

I have decided to publish a puzzle, searching for another 16-letter word featuring similar peculiarity.  I still do not know if such a word exists, so if there were no answers submitted I would relax the search, asking, say, for 7 words instead of 8.   Still no go?  How about 6?

There was neither rhyme nor reason to post a disclaimer, listing what categories are  banned.

Now, Dej Mar – everything is allowed – make your assumptions, use ERGO,  DIXI, ETC, SCUBA – and so on, just start the process.

I have spent a significant amount of my valuable time, with no reward, just to get it off my chest…
