It is a well-known fact that
eleven+two=twelve+one is an anagram equality
and
1 + 12 = 2 + 11 may be viewed as a palindrome.
After solving two independent alphametics:
(i). two*one=pigeon
and
(ii). twelve-eleven=equal
use your head to assign a digit to the ? in this puzzle's title,
to make 027 028?9
a meaningful expression.
027 02828 makes a nice rhyming pair of words if we use (i) for the first word and (ii) for the second.
I'm unsure of my solution because it is neither an anagram nor a palindrome. I don't understand how this makes the top half of the problem relevant.
