A stranger walks into a bar, looks at the board, puts $5 down and asks for a pint. The barkeep asks if he wants the Stout or the Amber. The stranger asks for the Amber.
Another complete stranger comes in, looks at the board, puts $5 down and asks for a pint. The barkeep immediately pulls a pint of Amber.
How did the barkeep know what the second stranger wanted?
Stout costs $4 and Amber costs $5.
The first stranger put down a 5 dollar bill, so the bartender wasn't sure which beer was being ordered.
The second stranger put down 5 one-dollar bills, so the bartender was certain it was the Amber, since the second stranger did look at the price list on the board. If it has been the Stout, he would have only put down 4 singles.
