I solved by both methods. I'm still trying to come up with a solution not involving calculus since the category is Just Math. (I'm assuming Shapes or Geometry might have been a better choice.)
An interesting note: the rectangle with maximum perimeter is a square.
This seems to run counter to fact that the rectangle with minimal perimeter is a square for a fixed area.
