This simple math problem went viral (about five million views) on YouTube:
6รท3(1+2)
What is your answer and its justification?
I don't pay too much attention to social media, but from what I've heard of these types of viral math problems is the "popular" answer fails to properly use order of precedence. So let's break it down
6/3(1+2)
so we have 4 operations: division, multiplication, addition, and a grouping by parenthesis.
Parenthesis have highest precedence so we do what is inside there first which is the single addition which gives us
6/3*3
Now division and multiplication have the same precedence so we simply go left to right, so we divide then multiply giving us
6/3*3=2*3=6
So the final answer is 6.
