You are travelling to point B from point A at a speed of 30mph. You travel back to point A from Point B (taking the same route) at 60mph. What is your average speed?

By the problem:
Time taken in traversing every 1 mile during the course of the onward journey= 1/30 hours
Time taken in traversing every 1 mile during the course of the return journey = 1/60 hours
Since the length of the onward journey and return journey is equal, therefore we must have:
The average time taken for traversing every mile during the course of the entire journey = (1/30 +1/60)/2= 1/40 hours

Consequently, the required average speed= 40 miles per hour.
